The seismic redevelopment and adaptation project of the Palazzetto dello Sport is identified as an important engineering work characterized by rigorous forms, spaces and functions capable of generating a new public image. The intervention aims to integrate into the context by dialoguing both with the existing building, considered particularly relevant as it is consolidated in the collective memory, and with the public buildings present and the consequent new and future potential for use.

The project insists on a few precise guidelines. The intervention sees the reorganization of the sediment areas, of the parking lots; the enhancement of green spaces, of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, conceived not only as a functional adaptation but as a scenographic stage that introduces the vision of the new Palazzetto. For those passing through via Kennedy, the new gull-wing roof is of great impact.
The new territorial LANDMARK future structure appears as a ceiling formed by a lattice of steel beams suspended in the void, supported by eight variable section concrete pillars. At night, during competitions, attention is captured by the lattice of beams obtained from the installation of LED lighting fixtures.
In the base part of the North elevation, a screen made of perforated sheet metal from exteriors is installed to mask the windows of the service areas placed under the existing bleachers
and fire escapes. The side wings of the building are enhanced with timely recovery and cleaning of the existing elevations.
The new entrance / foyer, functional and visual fulcrum of the building, easily identifiable by those who it comes from various directions and is protected by a shelter and inside it houses a multipurpose room and with independent entrance that can be used for events, press office and meetings of sports associations.
On the ground floor there are also ticket offices, services, changing rooms, a small gym, storage and technical rooms and on floor 1 ° a refreshment area accessible also by people with disabilities through a lift platform.
The configuration of the interior spaces highlights the balanced relationship between the existing and the new intervention which confirms the theatrical aspect of the “piazza urban ” characteristic of the original building. Formal cleanliness, rigor, constructive simplicity, recyclability of the components and short construction times are evident in the project proposal made with a few and targeted interventions also in terms of cost containment.
The The roof continues to project towards the outside, significantly expanding its spatiality, creating a visual permeability between exterior and interior and a strong architectural recognizability without formalisms or self-referential exercises.
